Man U double swoop: Everton’s post-January team?

With the January transfer window close approaching, we’ve tried to predict the teams after January.

Everton have been closely linked with right wingers, centre defence midfielders, and centre backs, so we’ve picked three new players for a new-look Everton team.

With Barry getting older, he is not quite the player he used to be. Therefore, we’ve gone for an almost like-for-like replacement, and picked Everton-target Morgan Schneiderlin. He is out of favour at Manchester United, and Mourinho is said to be happy to sanction a move for the player.

Another Manchester United misfit who has been strongly linked to the Toffees is Memphis Depay. The nimble-footed winger came to Manchester United with a reputation after winning the Golden Boot in the Eredevisie, but has struggled to revive the form he found with PSV.

Finally, we have chosen Vergil Van Dijk in centre defence. Everton’s defence is simply far too slow and old to be completely effective, and Van Dijk offers the pace, physicality and ability that Everton need. He can also pass competently, which could form a perfect link with Schneiderlin and Gana Gueye.

However, he has done so well at Southampton that other teams are in the mix for the able defender, namely Manchester United. Perhaps Koeman could give Everton an edge as he has worked with the player before, but it would be a hard move to pull off.
