Everton have held talks with Romelu Lukaku’s agent, Mino Raiola. Mino Raiola said midweek that the contract talks were ‘99.9 percent’ done.
The manager, Ronald Koeman, 53, has confirmed that talks have taken place. Speaking in a press conference, he stated: “The club is showing it wants to keep the best players and do everything to keep them for the future. I know they are in talks together but if it is 90 or 99% I need to believe his agent.”
The contract is said to make Lukaku, 23, Everton’s first £100k / week player, and may have an £80m buy-out clause.
The new contract however would probably be aimed to increasing any transfer fee for the player in the future rather than keep him at the club.
Raiola stated, “If Romelu is good enough, strong enough, to move in the next year then we will talk to Everton about it.”
Meanwhile, Koeman previously said, “His potential is greater and higher than Everton as a final destination. If Romelu was to play at Everton until the end of his career I know he has left something behind. I gave him confidence and he has himself recognised that it was good for his development to play another year at Everton. What after this season comes, no-one knows.”
Lukaku has attracted interest from PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester United. He is already on a contract running until 2019.
